What do you have against humanity?
You are a techno musician, cross-dresser and founder of a church officially recognized in the USA that advocates the extermination of humanity for environmental reasons. Can you explain the concept of your "Church of Euthanasia" in more detail?
CHRIS KORDA: Oh, of course that can't be done in a few sentences. But if you were to reduce our church to one simple principle, it would be our first and only commandment: "You shall not procreate!" So anyone who wants to join us has to swear not to bring children into the world for the rest of their lives. That's all we ask. The four pillars of our church - suicide, cannibalism, abortion and sodomy - are all optional. Of course, sodomy, i.e. any form of sex that does not lead to pregnancy, is very much in our spirit. But even that is optional. But when it comes to reproduction, we are strict. After all, we only have one commandment, and we cannot tolerate it being broken. So anyone who has children will be excommunicated.
You might think that we have something against children as such, but you are wrong. The Church of Euthanasia is concerned with containing the spread of humanity. So if you make this one, really small sacrifice and keep your genetic material to yourself, you can be happy with us. Of course, you can also campaign for endangered species, try to save the rainforest, or become politically active, but you don't have to. You have made your contribution. From this point of view, the Church of Euthanasia is a very attractive church. It is simple and undogmatic. But that is not the decisive factor. Much more decisive is the ideology that the church exists for in the first place. And this ideology has a name, and its name is anti-humanism. If you were to reduce the principle of anti-humanism to one sentence, it would be: people are stupid apes. Of course people think that they are not stupid apes, but there is enough evidence to show that they are wrong. And that's why it would be better for the earth if there were fewer people.
If you ask me if I can testify that people are stupid apes, I wouldn't even try to answer your question. Because that's not the point. After all, we're not talking about a science, but about a religion. And religions are never about facts, but about beliefs and feelings. I can't help you with my religion if you don't feel what I feel. And the main feeling of our religion is the feeling of disgust. The feeling of disgust towards humanity and its behavior. And again, I can't prove to you that the history of modern industrial society is disgusting deep down, but I can try to express my disgust. That's why in the "Church of Euthanasia" we use the most radical images we can find. We use the techniques of the situationists and Dadaism. Not to shock for fun, but to shake people up. To create the greatest conflict between what people want to believe and what we think we know. We want to confront people with a different self-image. We want to rob them of their sense of comfort. Because that is what modern industrial society is based on. People believe that somehow everything is OK. But nothing is OK. In fact, we are destroying the earth. And to prevent this destruction, the "Church of Euthanasia" stands for the total extermination of humanity. I have nothing against people in principle. But if they are not able to live in harmony with the ecosystem, it is more acceptable for humanity to die before it destroys the rest of the world.
Are you serious?
And how seriously I mean that. However, I have no illusions that we will be successful. Written by Harald Peters.
Chris Korda will be appearing today at midnight as part of the De:bug party at the Kino International.
