Chris Korda predicts humanity's dark future in his new album

Posted on 01.09.2020

Another of the works that were announced during our period of rest and renewal last August was Apologize To The Future , the new album by Chris Korda that will be released this Friday, September 4th by the Perlon label and that will become the second album that the North American artist will release this year after publishing Polymeter on Mental Groove Records a few months ago.

Apologize to the Future is the first album that the transgender, vegan artist and leader of the Church of Euthanasia has dedicated entirely to the fundamental themes of the 21st century: "climate change, economic inequality, intergenerational injustice, antinatalism, singularity and human extinction."

"The album is electro-rap with influences from techno and jazz, and is full of heartfelt and heartbroken rhymes sung by a robotic choir," they explain in the press release. Its central theme is that future generations, if they exist, will bitterly resent us for leaving them a destroyed planet. Throughout, Korda rails against the selfishness and solipsism of current generations, describing the album's "militant existentialism" as an urgent antidote to the "alternative facts" of the post-truth era.

According to Korda, "mass extinction is underway, so it's time to move past denial and into acceptance." People need to grow up and face reality, or we just won't be around." A takeover of the earth by sentient machines is also conceivable, and in Korda's vision " they couldn't do much worse." Our only hope for a habitable planet is to quickly control our growing population and consumption, embracing non-procreation and limits to growth. Otherwise, we will be reduced to "a thin layer of oily rock," a sad reference to Earth's most severe extinction event, the Permian-Triassic.

The entire album is written in complex polymers, meaning that many different odd time signatures are used simultaneously. Korda pioneered the use of complex polymers in techno in the mid-1990s and developed custom music composition software to master this technique. The vocals were sung by a robotic choir. Accompanying the news of the release Korda premiered the video clip for one of the tracks that we leave you below.
