CDA does not want any performance by a group that propagates hate
November 7, 2002
CDA Amsterdam is completely against the performance of the American Church of Euthanasia next Wednesday in Paradiso in Amsterdam. This group incites suicide, cannibalism and euthanasia with their performances. CDA believes that these kinds of hate propagating positions should not be communicated via the public stage, in this case Paradiso. It is very likely that this American group will disrupt public order, as has become apparent from previous performances in Hamburg and Berlin.
CDA council member Hans Res has therefore asked oral questions about this to Mayor Cohen during the General Affairs committee today. Recently, questions about the performances of this group have also been asked in the House of Representatives. Nevertheless, it is important for Mayor Cohen to maintain public order in Amsterdam. CDA therefore urgently requests Cohen to ban this performance.
Football matches such as the recent Ajax vs. Utrecht match are also cancelled on the grounds of hate speech, for the same reason the CDA believes that the municipality of Amsterdam should also cancel this performance. "The internet site of this group explains everything. It contains gruesome slogans such as 'Save the planet and kill yourself'. As if that were not enough, there are even manuals for suicide and for eating human flesh. This is no longer on the edge of what is possible, this is way over it", according to council member Hans Res.
