Suicide because of fear of death
Thursday, January 28, 2010
He is a man but thinks he is a woman, he is the head of a church but does not believe in God. Chris Korda, son of the writer Michael Korda, used to be a musician, or at least that's what he believed. As a consequence of the ever-approaching end of the world caused by man-made environmental pollution, he renounced this mostly evil-sounding passion and went among the founders of the faith: as head of the church of Euthanasia, the hardcore Dadaist promotes people's collective suicide.
The "Church" is recognized as a religious community in the USA, but causes people to shake their heads in the rest of the world. Because Reverend Korda, as the religious founder with a penchant for women's clothing modestly calls himself, does not preach charity or rebirth. But rather the salvation of the earth from the devastating work of humans through the voluntary extinction of the entire world population. In the tradition of earlier prophets, Korda claims that an alien intelligence called "The Being" once appeared to him in a dream and told him that the ecosystem was destroyed and that he was chosen to remind humanity of its responsibility for it.
With "Save the planet - kill yourself," the 46-year-old house producer sums up his teachings. And this has been the case since 1992, when not even Angela Merkel was talking about global warming and climate catastrophe. The question is "man or nature," he says; only one can survive. "Religions are never about facts," he says, "but about beliefs and feelings." His, Korda said, told him "that, deep down, the history of modern industrial society is abhorrent."
This view is propagated by the mini-community of supposedly a few hundred believers. "Eat people, not animals!", "Real men wear skirts" and "Vasectomy prevents abortion" are three of the ten commandments of the Suicide Church. A world population counter rattles up on the website as a warning - and extends the path that Chris Korda has to take to reach the goal: man voluntarily steps away from the world's stage and the earth can finally flourish again undisturbed.
